Let’s do a little hypothetical, you acquired a formal medical exemption. You keep it in your pocket, you go to a store and they ask you to put on a mask. You say I have an exemption, proudly pulling out your paperwork/card. They say that’s fine if you cannot wear a mask we will be happy to help you from outside the store over the phone.
Or worse, they tell you that you are not allowed inside and will have to order online or make other arrangements.
This is where most people get confused. You have an “exemption” why can’t you be inside?

Firstly as of the writing of this article, there is no such thing as an official medical exemption card from wearing a mask. As what counts breathing difficulties for one person may not apply to another, and as it is difficult to apply any sort of standardization it is difficult to regulate. If it cannot be regulated by an authoritative body odds are not good it is an official anything.

Are some individuals exempt from wearing masks? Yes, for example, young children, infants, or those that have to wear breathing devices, portable oxygen tanks for example.
However, those sorts of cases tend to be the exception, not the rule. I have seen individuals with nasal oxygen tanks wearing masks over the plugs.
